Sometimes you have a question that didn’t come up at your last appointment. Sometimes you think of it five minutes after leaving. And sometimes you want to talk about something specifically related to being LGBTQ+ with someone who understands the context without you having to explain everything first.
Ask a Queer Birth Boffin gives you dedicated time to talk through your questions about pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period with a knowledgeable professional who is also part of the LGBTQ+ community.
What Can We Talk About?
Your session is yours, so you can use the time to discuss the questions that matter to you.
Perhaps you want to understand some of the terminology you’ve encountered during pregnancy. You might want to explore your birth options, talk through something you’ve been offered during your care or find out more about what to expect after your baby arrives.
You might also have questions specifically related to navigating pregnancy, birth or postnatal care as an LGBTQ+ person or family.
Whatever you’d like to discuss, you don’t need to worry about whether your question is too small, too obvious or something you “should” already know.
A Private, LGBTQ+ Affirming Space
Sessions are held privately via Zoom, at a time arranged to suit you.
We know that accessing perinatal care as an LGBTQ+ person can sometimes mean navigating assumptions, heavily gendered language or professionals who don’t fully understand your family or identity.
This is a space where you can ask your questions without needing to justify your identity, explain your family structure or provide LGBTQ+ 101 before getting to the thing you actually wanted to talk about.
Our approach is inclusive, non-judgemental and centred around giving you information that can help you understand your options and make informed choices about your own care.
How Much Does a Session Cost?
Each session lasts 30 minutes and is available on a £20–£40 sliding scale.
You can choose the amount within that range that works for your circumstances.
If you’ve attended one of our antenatal or postnatal education classes, one Ask a Queer Birth Boffin session is included free of charge.
Is This Medical Advice?
Ask a Queer Birth Boffin is an educational and informational service rather than a replacement for individual medical care.
We can help you explore information, understand your options and think about questions you may want to take back to your midwife, GP or another healthcare professional. We cannot diagnose conditions or tell you which medical treatment is right for you.
